The British Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics

The British Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BAPO) was established to protect the prosthetic and orthotic profession in the UK with regard to its status and interests. BAPO is the only UK professional body that represents prosthetists, orthotists and associated professionals and almost 100% of the profession are members. The Association aims to encourage high standards of prosthetic and orthotic practice, continued professional development and education as well as enhancing standards of prosthetic and orthotic care.

Health and Care Professions Council

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is a new independent, UK-wide regulatory body responsible for setting and maintaining standards of professional training, performance and conduct of the 12 healthcare professions that it regulates, including orthotists and prosthetists

Salford University and Strathclyde University

The University of Salford and the University of Strathclyde are the foremost providers of health and social care learning in the UK, including Orthotics and Prosthetics degree courses. Students who have undertaken their degree studies at these Universities value their experiences and often return to complete other developmental programmes

Keele University and the University of Derby

Keele University and the University of Derby are recognised providers of high-quality healthcare education in the UK and work in partnership to deliver the MSc in Prosthetics and Orthotics. British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA)

The aim of the Orthotics sector of the British Healthcare Trades Association (BHTA) is to represent all orthotic service contractors to the NHS as well as manufacturers of approved products. Regular dialogue takes place with NHS Supplies, as national contract convenor, and there is representation on all relevant standards committees, as well as the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine (responsible for state registration of orthotists and prosthetists).
